These classes introduce the art of meditation and how to use Buddha’s advice in our own lives to solve all our daily problems. They include time for relaxing guided meditation, and clear explanation of Buddhist ideas. The classes are presented as a short series over several weeks, but each class is self-contained – so you can drop in any time you like.
Buddha’s teachings on meditation are scientific methods to solve our problems permanently. By putting these into practice we will become permanently free from all our suffering and problems. Learn the foundations of Buddhist meditation that lead us to pure and everlasting happiness.
Thursday 5th September – How to find the real meaning of human life
Material possessions, reputation, good looks, power, excitement, adventure and relationships can make us superficially happy for a short time, but can never give us deeper happiness. Appreciating the value of our human life releases our potential to find the real happiness that we long for, which we can find through training in meditation.
Thursday 12th September – How awareness of death enriches our life
Although we usually do not like to think about death, Buddha says awareness of our mortality is the best way to make our life truly meaningful. Learn how meditating on death opens the door to the spiritual path.
Thursday 19th September – What can really protect us?
When our life is in danger or we are threatened or sick we usually seek refuge in the police, doctors etc. But they can provide only temporary protection. We can enjoy permanent liberation from all sufferings only by seeking refuge in Buddha, his teachings Dharma and Sangha, the true spiritual practitioners.
Thursday 26th September – What happens if you understand karma?
From non-virtuous actions comes suffering and from virtuous actions comes happiness: if we believe this, we believe in karma. Understanding karma solves so many of life’s puzzles and gives us a code we can live by. Learn how we can use our understanding of karma to avoid future suffering and enjoy pure happiness.
