Path to Liberation
Why do good or bad things happen to us? The Buddhist explanation is because of our karma. “Karma” is a Sanskrit word meaning “action”, and refers to all our intentional physical, verbal and mental actions. Every action we perform plants a karmic seed or potential in the deepest level of our consciousness, which some time in the future will give rise to a specific effect. The effect of negative actions is future suffering, and the effect of positive actions is future happiness. In the first four weeks of this course we will look at the law of karma in general. Understanding and acting in accordance with the law of karma is the basis of Buddhist morality.
Once we have a general understanding of the law of karma, we will realize that we have a huge store of negative karmic potentials in our mind, and we will naturally wish to get this negativity out of our system. In the last three weeks of this course we will learn a simple yet extremely powerful method to purify our negative karma through meditating on Buddha Vajrasattva and reciting his mantra. By doing this practice sincerely over a long period of time we can definitely purify all our negative karma. We will then become a completely pure being, with a pure mind and body, free from all potential to experience suffering.
