The Bodhisattva Vow
with Debs Bence
5th February – 16th July
Term breaks (for all classes): 2nd – 6th April; 28th May – 1st June
An in-depth study class on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s book, The Bodhisattva Vow, which explains the vows and commitments of a Bodhisattva, how to purify negative actions, and how to practice the six perfections.
A Bodhisattva is someone who has dedicated him or herself to becoming a fully enlightened Buddha in order to be able to help all living beings. The Bodhisattva vow is a promise to complete all the moral and spiritual trainings needed to achieve this goal. In this book Geshe Kelsang explains how to take the vow, and how to avoid all the downfalls that hinder our moral and spiritual development. He goes on to explain a special method for purifying any downfalls we may incur, as well all negative karma in general. In the final part of the book there is a detailed explanation of the six perfections, which are the very heart of the Bodhisattva’s way of life leading to full enlightenment – the perfections of giving, moral discipline, patience, joyous effort, concentration and wisdom.
