In-Depth Study Programmes

Foundation Programme and Teacher Training Programme

If you are looking to deepen your meditation practice and understanding of Buddhist teachings then KMC Wales offers two in-depth study programmes which are open to everyone – the Foundation Programme and the Teacher Training Programme

The Foundation Programme

The Foundation Programme is the perfect next step for those who have enjoyed attending drop-in meditation sessions. The Foundation Programme (FP) is a tried and tested way to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of Buddha’s teachings, maintain a daily meditation practice that is both focused and powerful, and make genuine spiritual progress.

Why join FP?

Foundation Programme provides an opportunity to engage in systematic study and meditation on the essential subjects of Kadampa Buddhism based on six books by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. The emphasis in the classes, which consist of teachings, meditation, and discussion, is on gaining practical experience of Buddha’s teachings that you can apply to your daily life.

“By studying on FP we naturally increase
our Dharma wisdom and improve our ability
to benefit others”

Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

,What does an FP Class include?

Each class lasts two hours and consists of short chanted prayers, a guided meditation, teaching and discussion. The classes are systematic and interactive and students will find that their knowledge and wisdom grows week by week as a result.

What book is being studied?

Based on the famous Eight Verses of Training the Mind by the great Tibetan Bodhisattva, Langri Tangpa, The New Eight Steps to Happiness reveals essential methods for transforming all life’s difficulties into valuable spiritual insights. This inspiring book helps us to develop universal love and compassion, the source of true happiness for both ourself and others.

The oral transmission of the book, combined with teachings, guided meditations and discussion, will build our confidence to apply Dharma in daily life. By doing this consistently, we will joyfully turn our initial insights into actual realisations of Dharma.

Most of all, by building a connection with the teachings and spiritual friends, Foundation Programme is the perfect way to energise and sustain our spiritual life.

The New Eight Steps to Happiness  can be purchased from Tharpa Publications.

“Everyone, whether religious or non-religious, is looking for happiness all the time and wants to be free from problems and suffering permanently. We can fulfil these wishes through understanding and practicing the instructions given in this book”  –  Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

The Teacher

The Teacher for Foundation Programme is Sue Jenkins.

Sue has been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for 40 years and has taught at a number of Kadampa Centres in the UK. As a working mum she is able to share her practical experience of putting dharma into practice in a busy modern and professional life.

Programme Fee

If you decide to join the programme then the monthly subscription is £30 per month. This fee also includes free admission to all classes, courses and branches run by KMC Wales.

4 Week Trial

A four week trial is a great chance to try FP. The first taster class is free with the next three taster classes you are able to pay on an individual basis (£6 per class).

After four classes students who wish to continue will enrol on the programme, which involves trying to attend all the classes, one of which is an end-of-year exam. Please note Foundation Programme is not a drop-in class.

If you would like to try the taster sessions or need further information then please contact our Education Programme Coordinator, Roland, via 01792 458245 or
