The Foundation Programme provides systematic study, meditation and discussion on six essential Buddhist texts to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddha’s teachings.
“By studying on FP we naturally increase our Dharma wisdom and improve our ability to benefit others”
– Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Systematic study each week is essential in developing and nurturing both our wisdom and compassion, which are necessary qualities leading to the lasting inner peace of a Buddha. By studying the essential Buddhist texts as presented by our Spiritual Guide, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we can internalise Buddha’s teachings and develop the qualities that enable us to become a source of peace and happiness for others and we can then be of real benefit to our family and friends, our society and our world.
Foundation Programme – In-Depth Study of Kadampa Buddhism
Each session is led by Kadam Mike Garside, our resident teacher, and includes preliminary prayers, guided meditation, teachings and transmission of the text, with discussion and dedication to conclude each session.
Kadam Mike Garside- The Centre’s Resident Teacher
The Resident Teacher at KMC Wales is Kadam Mike Garside – a dedicated disciple of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, who has been practising and teaching Kadampa Buddhism in the UK and Spain for over 30 years, living in many New Kadampa Tradition Centres during that time. Mike engaged in long retreat with Venerable Geshe-la at Tharpaland International Retreat Centre from 1986 to 1989 and contributed to the editing of many of his books. Mike is known amongst his students for his approachability, deeply insightful and inspiring teachings, and his love for meditation and exploring the meaning of the teachings through discussion. The Centre is extremely fortunate to be able to benefit from Mike’s wealth of practical meditative experience.
